Lake Jindabyne waters are closed to the public at the Claypits due to a sewage spill, in effect from Monday 30 March 2026. Council cautions the public to avoid swimming, rowing, paddle-boarding, fishing, or any other activity likely to cause contact with lake water at the Claypits until further notice.

The carpark, parkland and other public amenities at the Claypits remain safe and open to the public.

Investigation and testing are underway to determine the cause and extent of the spill, with public safety warning signs already in place around the foreshore. These precautionary measures are in place to ensure public safety until testing and investigations are complete.

While the affected lake water poses a low risk to the public, it is safest to avoid exposure until testing results have confirmed that the lake waters at the Claypits are 100% safe.

This is a developing situation and Council will issue further updates via its website at www.snowymonaro.nsw.gov.au as new information becomes available.
