Laneway Festival Postponed Due To Forecast Wet Weather

Kempsey Shire Council

Kempsey's much-loved Laneway Festival, due to be held on Saturday 12 April, has been postponed due to predicted rain.

The difficult decision to postpone has been made after conversations with the organising committee and other people who are involved on the day, from stall holders and food vendors to entertainment providers.

It was generally agreed that although it is disappointing to have to postpone this event, an early decision was supported and appreciated, as it avoids unnecessary preparation and cost for event participants.

Last year's Laneway Festival was also interrupted by wet weather, which not only impacted the overall experience of the event but also impacted safety and pack up for festival goers and stallholders.

Event organisers are already organising the rescheduled date, which at this stage is likely to be sometime in September.

A September date will avoid the wet weather common in April and comes in after the peak youth sport season, which winds down earlier that month.

A big part of the festival experience is the opportunity for young people to run a stall, perform, and exhibit their artworks. In great news, any young people who were planning to run a market stall or perform at the festival will be offered a chance to participate and be mentored by market organisers in the May or June Riverside Markets, free of charge.

Event organisers at Kempsey Shire Council share the disappointment of the festival participants and community members who have been looking forward to attending this fun and vibrant celebration of our talented young people.

The team wants to acknowledge the hard work of everybody leading up this event, and to thank the festival participants for working so well with Council to help make our Laneway Festival the very best event it can be.
