Lanterns light way for one small town

Almost every aspect of the festival has a local focus, including artists, musicians, and participants, as well as the materials used to create the lanterns.

Anyone from school children to adults can design a candle-lit paper lantern in one of several workshops funded through our Festivals Australia program.

Each year, previous participants use the skills they've built over the years to create more ambitious designs.

The lit lanterns create a spectacular display and the event finale is the lighting of a fire mural designed and created by local Peramangk Indigenous artists.

This year will mark the 7th year of the Hahndorf Winter Lantern Festival which also features percussion, outdoor instruments, screen printing and appliqué flag workshops. Keep an eye on their website and Facebook page for event timing.

Festivals Australia funds high-quality arts projects which focus on community participation in regional or remote parts of Australia.

There is an additional $2.4 lion available for projects planned for next year through the Festivals Australia program as part of the Regional Arts Tourism package.
