Larrakeyah Primary signs MOU with Leeds International School

Larrakeyah Primary School and Leeds International School in Singapore have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) this week, strengthening collaboration opportunities for Northern Territory and Singaporean students.

The new partnership will support and deliver a range of opportunities for students and teachers, such as student exchanges, joint educational projects and sharing of information, resources and learning strategies.

Larrakeyah Primary School Principal, Fathma Mauger said the MOU will see the schools develop friendship and cooperation as well as promote mutual understanding and cultural awareness between the Northern Territory and Singapore.

"This valuable partnership will enhance our school's relationship with Singapore and assist students to become globally engaged learners comfortable interacting across countries and cultures," she said.

"We will also see great benefits for our teachers through expanded professional development opportunities and a chance to share resources and insights with our international colleagues."

During the agreement the schools will also:

o Exchange information about the Cambridge curriculum and pedagogy; including teaching resources, teaching strategies and professional learning activities as appropriate.

o Encourage communication between students via video technology and exchange of student emails, letters, photos, and work.

o Provide opportunities for groups of students in both countries to collaborate on learning projects.

o Arrange staff and student exchange between schools to deepen cultural understandings.

o Provide opportunities for professional development of all staff relating to curriculum global perspectives and cultural understanding.

o Exchange strategies that both schools implement to build a positive and productive school culture with staff, students, and parents.

Staff travelled to Singapore for the official signing yesterday and a virtual event was held at Larrakeyah Primary School for students, staff, and families to attend.

Larrakeyah Primary School was the first NT Government school to be accredited as a Cambridge International School in 2016 joining over 10,000 schools worldwide.
