Last call for young people to speak up and engage to make a difference

Applications close on March 1 for young people aged 15 to 24 to get involved in council's Speak Up Engage program.

Speak Up Engage is a unique and innovative youth engagement and development initiative created by young people or young people.

Community Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said former Speak Up Engage participants had worked alongside council to create the Sunshine Coast Youth Action Plan, guiding the support provided to young people and the youth services sector in our healthy, smart, creative region until 2021.

"The new program will offer free formal professional and personal development training by program partners CQUniversity and unique opportunities to provide advice to council on youth related matters," Cr McKay said.

"At the conclusion of the program, the successful participants will have the rare opportunity of sharing their experiences of being involved in a community project with the mayor and councillors.

"We are looking for registrations from interested young advocates who want to be a voice for young people on the Sunshine Coast.

"If you are aged between 15 and 24, this is your chance to share your ideas, get involved and make a real difference."

There are limited spaces available on the 2019 Speak Up Engage program and it is easy to get involved, simply complete the online registration form. If you are under 18, you will need permission from your parent, guardian or carer to participate.

Registrations close 5pm on March 1, 2019.
