Mount Gambier Library will provide a lasting benefit to people with low vision across the region following a generous donation from the Mount Gambier and Districts Club for the Visually Impaired. As the club formally winds up after many years of service, it has partnered with the library to ensure its remaining funds continue to support accessibility, inclusion, and independent access to information for the community.
Through this collaboration, the club elected to donate its remaining funds to purchase high‑quality magnifying devices. These items will be made available both within the library and through the 'Library of Things' collection, allowing community members to borrow the equipment for use at home.
Club representatives said they were proud to leave behind a contribution that will continue to support independence, access, and inclusion.
"Our members wanted to ensure that the funds we had worked hard to raise would continue to help people in our community. The library was the perfect partner to make that happen," Mount Gambier and Districts Club for the Visually Impaired secretary Kathy Golder said.
Manager Library and Community Development Georgina Davison welcomed the donation and acknowledged the club's long history of advocacy and support.
"This generous contribution will make a real difference for community members with low vision. The equipment will be freely accessible, practical, and available to anyone who needs it. We are honoured to help carry forward the club's legacy," Mrs Davison said.
