Western Australia's strong economic momentum continued in 2025-26, with the State's domestic economy growing by 3.5 per cent, marking its seventh consecutive year of annual growth, according to new Australian Bureau of Statistics data released today.

Over the past seven years, WA's domestic economy has grown by 32.3 per cent, outpacing national growth of 21 per cent and almost double the growth rates of New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania.

WA's private sector continues to be the dominant driver of this growth, accounting for 87 per cent, which is the highest share of all States.

It was also underpinned by strong growth in dwelling investment, business investment and household spending.

Dwelling investment increased by 9.2 per cent supported by a rise in new homes being delivered in WA.

Building approvals continue to climb rapidly, exceeding 26,100 over the year to July, according to ABS data released yesterday.

Business investment continued its strong and sustained growth in 2025-26, up 6.5 per cent to almost $65 billion.

Business investment has now grown by 47.3 per cent over the past seven years and continues to account for almost one-fifth of national business investment.

Household consumption was the largest driver of growth in 2025-26, growing by 3 per cent, again outpacing national growth of 2.3 per cent.

Government spending grew by 3.9 per cent while government investment reduced by 6.3 per cent, however, the Cook Labor Government's investment in infrastructure remans at record levels.

For the June quarter, the WA economy grew by 1 per cent, more than three times the national growth rate of 0.3 per cent.

As stated by Treasurer Rita Saffioti:

"Western Australia's economy continues to power the nation and seven years of annual economic growth is something we can all be proud of.

"With private sector investment continuing to drive our State's economic growth, it shows businesses are confident in Western Australia's strong economic future.

"The Cook Labor Government is committed to continuing this momentum, by responsibly managing our State's finances and working alongside industry to diversify our economy for the future.

"We want Western Australians to benefit from this economic strength by being able to access quality jobs at home, with 370,000 jobs created since we came to government.

"We'll continue to use our strong economic position to deliver for Western Australian families in our priorities of jobs, health, housing and cost-of-living support."
