Launceston comedy series on road to success

Elise Archer,Minister for the Arts

A new fictional web series, created by Northern Tasmanian filmmakers Dylan Hesp and Michael O'Neill, was launched in Launceston last night.

The series, Australia's Best Street Racer, is a mockumentary based on the naivety of youth and the importance of belonging and community, all whilst being very funny.

The comedy web series is the first project to go into full production through the Hodgman majority Liberal Government's 'Short Form Series Booster' stream of our Project Development Program.

Through Screen Tasmania, we provided $25,000 into the production of Street Racer, alongside a grant from Screen Australia's Online Production Fund, leveraging more than $100,000 of expenditure in Tasmania.

We also proudly supported the development of a documentary Small Town Drifter that followed Taylor Forward, a Penguin local, whose love of cars and community inspired Street Racer's main character.

Our support of Michael and Dylan demonstrates our ongoing commitment to developing and nurturing young Tasmanian talent so that our stories can be shared with the world.
