Launceston to serve up table tennis action in 2024

Nic Street, Minister for Stadia and Events

More than 800 table tennis athletes from across the country will descend upon Launceston for the National Veterans Table Tennis Championship next year.

Minister for Stadia and Events, Nic Street, said the 2024 National Veterans Table Tennis Championship will bring significant economic benefits to the North of the State and give Tasmanians an opportunity to witness high-quality table tennis action in their own backyard.

"This is the largest, most anticipated event on Australia's table tennis calendar and enjoys a remarkable legacy, spanning over forty years," Minister Street said.

"The event will also provide ample opportunity for participants and other visitors to explore all that northern Tasmania has to offer."

The eight-day event caters to a wide range of players, with age categories from the over-30s to the over-85s, making it not only a showcase of elite athletic skill, but an inclusive and diverse celebration of the sport.

Minister Street said the Rockliff Liberal Government was providing $50,000 to support the event.

"Supporting events like the National Veterans Table Tennis Championship is an important part of our Government's long term plan to grow the visitor economy, ensuring we bring visitors to the State all year round."

The National Veterans Table Tennis Championship will take place at the Launceston Silverdome on 14 to 21 September 2024.
