Bega Valley Shire Council is now able to provide the option of lawn section burials in Bega cemetery.

"We are pleased to be able to offer two memorial burial options in an open lawn environment, located at the bottom northern corner of the Bega cemetery," Council's Property Services Manager, Rickee Marshall said.

"This new natural and peaceful setting will contain two rows of burial plots, each with a different memorial structure sited on a concrete beam.

"The lower row offers an upright, small granite headstone on a granite base installed by a monumental mason and along the top row, plaques can be installed on a granite footing.

"This new option will provide an additional 116 plots, which at double depth equals 232 burials."

The lawn burial section has been made possible with funding under the Australian Government's Drought Communities Programme.

This program has also funded road and amenities upgrades in Bega, Bermagui, Cobargo and Pambula cemeteries, a fence replacement at Eden cemetery, and a new pavilion and memorial garden at Cobargo cemetery.
