- Aboriginal Business Leadership Initiative to encompass the Goldfields-Esperance region

A Cook Government initiative to empower Aboriginal leaders and business owners will be rolled out across the Goldfields-Esperance region.
The Aboriginal Business Leadership Initiative provides comprehensive development and support to strengthen leadership, operational skills, and business resilience for long-term success.
The Cook Government has provided $250,000 towards the six-month program to upskill Aboriginal leaders and grow sustainable businesses.
The program will be delivered by Western Australian Aboriginal-owned and operated consultancy Kaala Barna.
Aboriginal business operators and community leaders in the Goldfields-Esperance region interested in participating in the program can find out more at the Kaala Barna website .
The successful program has already been delivered to 95 participants since 2017, including the Gascoyne, Mid West, Wheatbelt, South West, and Great Southern, along with the Goldfields-Esperance region in 2018-2019.
As stated by Regional Development Minister Stephen Dawson:
"The Aboriginal Business Leadership Initiative aims to increase Aboriginal leadership capacity and grow sustainable businesses in regional WA, in a way that reflects the vision and desires of regional communities.
"It is designed with a flexible and tailored approach ensuring participants get support that suits their needs best.
"The Cook Government is supporting Aboriginal leadership across WA by investing in targeted initiatives like the Aboriginal Business Leadership Initiative."
As stated by Acting Aboriginal Affairs Minister Reece Whitby:
"This initiative is focused on strengthening Aboriginal leadership and supporting business owners and emerging entrepreneurs throughout the Goldfields-Esperance region. It reflects the Cook Government's commitment to fostering opportunity and growth in regional communities.
"Through this program, participants will gain access to tailored personal development, mentoring, and practical business skills that build confidence and resilience for long-term success."

"We look forward to this program returning to the Goldfields-Esperance region, to support growth and innovation in our communities.
"Kaala Barna will work closely with the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development and Goldfields-Esperance Development Commission to ensure the program is tailored to support the community and business leaders in the region."
