Logan City Council will lead a pilot project to establish a regional Climate Resilience Alliance across South East Queensland.

Council was the successful applicant of a Queensland Climate Resilient Councils (QCRC) $100,000 grant to deliver the pilot project.

Council led the successful grant submission in collaboration with four other South East Queensland Councils:

  • Brisbane City Council
  • Ipswich City Council
  • Noosa Regional Council
  • Sunshine Coast Regional Council

Environment Chair, Deputy Mayor Jon Raven, said it was an exciting opportunity for Council to show it is a leader in climate change initiatives.

"This pilot will strengthen Council's commitment to climate change resilience and aligns with our target to be carbon neutral target," Councillor Raven said.

"Logan is proud to take a lead the when it comes to climate resistance. Our community expects us to collaborate with other Councils so that we can plan for a sustainable future across the entire region.

"City of Logan's leadership will not only help all five participating Councils better address the threats of climate change, it will also give us the knowledge and tools to better educate and support our communities."

The pilot program also aims to achieve:

  • Increased understanding of key climate risks for Council, the City of Logan community and the broader South East Queensland community
  • Regional collaboration on identifying the roles and responsibilities for addressing climate risks across the region
  • A region-wide collaborative and cooperative strategy to build climate resilience

An invitation will be extended to other South East Queensland councils to participate in the project.
