As part of its efforts to advance the transition to a circular economy across the Arab region, ESCWA, in partnership with the Ministry of Industry in Lebanon, organized two consecutive workshops to support the development of policies that promote the integration of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) into the circular economy.
Held from 28 to 30 July at the UN House in Beirut, the workshops equipped participants with a comprehensive understanding of circular economy principles, their importance, and the opportunities they offer for SMEs, while showcasing relevant best practices and successful experiences. Participants also explored practical tools for designing and strengthening public policies, guidelines, and enabling frameworks that support the adoption of circular practices and business models within the SME sector.
The two events, organized within a series of capacity-building workshops for national policymakers, brought together policymakers and decision makers from key economic, industrial, environmental, agricultural, and energy institutions, alongside representatives of regulatory and standards bodies, research organizations, business support institutions, industry associations, and the private sector.
