Leeton Shire Council is proud to announce that three of its long-serving councillors have been honoured with Local Government NSW (LGNSW) Service Awards at the LGNSW Annual Conference Dinner on Monday 24 November 2025.
Mayor Cr George Weston received a 30-year service award, Deputy Mayor Cr Michael Kidd received a 15-year service award and Cr Tracey Morris received a 10-year service award. The awards recognise their sustained commitment to the elected local government and the contribution councillors make to their communities over many years of service.
General Manager Jackie Kruger congratulated the councillors on behalf of the organisation and the broader Leeton Shire community.
"On behalf of Council staff and the community we serve, I extend warm congratulations to Councillors Weston, Kidd and Morris on these well-deserved Service Awards. Their dedication, professionalism and long-term commitment to Leeton Shire are recognised not only through these milestones, but in the positive impact they continue to make for residents, local businesses and community groups. We thank each councillor for their service to the Shire and for the care they bring to representing our community," Ms Kruger said.
Mayor Cr George Weston has served Leeton Shire for 30 years, including 14 years as Deputy Mayor, and is now in his first term as Mayor. A local businessman with strong community ties, Cr Weston has long been involved in local events and groups, including the Australia Day and SunRice Festival Committees. He is known for his focus on community involvement, driving economic development, a strong heritage interest, including saving Henry Lawson Cottage, and advancing major infrastructure priorities such as the CBD enhancement projects.
Councillor Michael Kidd was first elected in 2004 and has been serving as Deputy Mayor since 2021. He has a deep connection to the Roxy Redevelopment Project and serves on the Roxy Redevelopment Committee, helping to guide the renewal of this important cultural landmark. Cr Kidd is also a strong advocate for better health outcomes for Leeton residents, supporting initiatives that improve community wellbeing and access to services.
Cr Tracey Morris has represented the community since 2012 and is now in her fourth term. With a strong financial background, she contributes to Council's governance and oversight through the Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee (ARIC), and also serves on the Board of StateCover, Council's insurer. Cr Morris has also been actively involved in the Roxy Redevelopment Project, supporting its progress as a major cultural investment for the Shire.
Leeton Shire Council thanks Councillors Weston, Kidd and Morris for their continued service, and acknowledges all councillors, past and present, who have given their time to strengthen and represent the Leeton Shire community.
