Grassroots tennis across NSW has received an early Christmas present following the awarding of more than $240,000 in funding through NSW ATP Cup Tennis Legacy Fund.
Acting Minister for Sport Geoff Lee said nineteen projects have received grants of up to $50,000 to support facility upgrades and encourage participation.
"2020 has been a testing year for community sport but before the COVID-19 pandemic the ATP Cup brought some superstars to Sydney for a fabulous tournament and now this fund will build on that legacy for the NSW community," Mr Lee said.
"The grassroots summer tennis season is well underway with more restrictions lifted and this funding will bring some Christmas cheer to lots of clubs around the State."
Tennis NSW CEO Lawrence Robertson said the partnership between Tennis NSW and the NSW Government will provide more than $5 million in funding to grassroots tennis over the next three years.
"The first round of Legacy Fund initiatives announced today will enable the delivery of $1.52 million in projects at clubs, associations and council facilities across NSW," Mr Robertson said.
"The Fund also supports Participation Programs that reduce barriers to playing tennis. This includes people with disability, culturally and linguistically diverse groups, women and girls, as well as those needing support with mental health.
"We want to thank the NSW Government for their on-going commitment to tennis through not only delivering world class content to NSW through the ATP Cup but most importantly delivering lasting legacies for grassroots tennis clubs and venues across the State."
