As of September 2023, Leiden University is a new host of the Research Network on Academic Freedom.
The Research Network was originally established as part of the Global Observatory on Academic Freedom (GOAF) at the Central European University and managed by Dr. Milica Popović. However, with the end of GOAF's project cycle in June 2023, the CEU can no longer support the Network. Going forward, Leiden University will provide the necessary administrative support and scholarly expertise for the Research Network on Academic Freedom to continue its activities. The Network will be embedded within the project 'The EU fundamental right to 'freedom of the arts and sciences': exploring the limits on the commercialisation of academia (AFITE)' and managed by Olga Ceran and Vasiliki Kosta (AFITE project leader).
