Lemon Springs illegal waste dump works continue

Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) is continuing work to remediate the illegal waste dump site in Lemon Springs, south of Kaniva.

EPA has contracted West Wimmera Shire Council to construct two internal access roads that are essential to support heavy vehicle and machinery movement during the next phase of remediation .

The roads will also improve ease of vehicle movements in and around the site.

In another boost for the local economy, the road base material will be sourced from local quarries. Construction works will start soon once all approvals have been received. The works will take around four weeks, depending on the weather. During this time, you will see EPA staff based in and around Kaniva.

While these works take place, we'll continue:

 monitoring ground water quality which shows no sign of contamination

 with the preparatory procurements works for site remediation;

 monitoring security of the premises;

 surveying the site using EPA's drone; and

 to keep you informed through our regular emails, website and local media.
