Lemon Springs October update

Further progress has been made to remediate the Lemon Springs property that is the alleged site of illegal waste dumping.

A new progress video from Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) shows a new second hardstand area has been constructed to treat contaminated soil in preparation for re-use or transport to an appropriate disposal facility.

"You can see in the progress video our contractor Enviropacific has been excavating and clearing areas to removal buried waste," said EPA Project Manager Julian Bull.

"So far, five sites out of possible 32 have been addressed with 700 tonnes of hazardous waste now removed. It's a long-term project and we have confidence that we are progressing as hoped despite the need for a flexible approach due to the complexity of the site and the unknown nature."

Mr Bull said EPA ground water monitoring was continuing to show no signs of contamination.
