Liberals continue to spend recklessly on consultants

Tasmanian Labor
  • Liberals grant $250,000 for another consultant on Westbury prison project
  • Taxpayers bear the cost of Liberals incompetency
  • Government must release consultant's report
  • The Hodgman Government continues to spend extravagantly on consultants despite desperate promises that they will be cutting consultants.

Shadow Corrections Minister, Ella Haddad, said taxpayers were bearing the cost of the Liberals failures.

"In the last budget the Liberals announced $450 million in cuts by slashing expenditure on travel and consultants," Ms Haddad said.

"We already know the Liberals have outsourced community consultation for the maximum security Westbury prison to a consultant for $115,000, and now we discover that have granted a further $250,000 - all at the cost of hard working Tasmanians.

"Taxpayers have paid for this work, which the Liberals are typically keeping secret.

"The Liberals continue to spend recklessly despite promising they would cut spending on consultants.

"The Government must come clean and release the consultant's report to better inform the Westbury community why their town was chosen as the site for the Maximum Security Prison."
