Liberals' Power Dividend Scams Tasmanians, Labor Claims

Tas Labor

The minority Liberal Government's new energy policy will rip off Tasmanian consumers and continue to see them slugged with higher power prices.

Premier Jeremy Rockliff's rushed policy to provide Tasmanian households with a dividend as part of his cabinet "reset" is lousy.

How can it be a good deal to charge Tasmanians an extra $500 with one hand and then provide them $100 back with another?

This equates to 254,000 households this government will not help and a total of $130 million that will be ripped from Tasmanian families during a cost of living crisis.

On three occasions the Liberals have voted against and broken their promise to cap power prices, despite it still being a policy position on their website.

Labor has already announced that within the first 100 days in government we will cap power prices at 2.5 per cent a year for all households and small businesses. We will also re-establish the electricity rebate scheme that was in place in 2018.

Tasmanians deserve to pay Tasmanian prices for Tasmanian power and a Labor government would ensure this happens both now and in the future.
