The Liberal government continues to fail struggling Tasmanians with its inability to deliver promised affordable and social housing.
Shadow Housing Minister Alison Standen said, despite the government's continual announcements, it has made little headway on the state's housing crisis.
"It is now more than a year since agreement was reached to waive Tasmania's historic Commonwealth State Housing Agreement debt," Ms Standen said.
"At the time, the Housing Minister promised another 80 homes would be delivered each year for people on social housing waiting list across Tasmania.
"And yet, the most recent quarterly housing report showed just five new social housing homes have been funded through the debt waiver. Not 80 - just five.
"Roger Jaensch has a fine record of announcements, but there is no record of delivery to back it up.
"The number of people on the waiting list for public housing has blown out to 3600 people on his watch, with a 64 per cent blowout in the waiting list since the Liberals took office.
"It is beyond time that the government fixed this mess and provided the affordable and social housing struggling Tasmanians need.
"Labor's Housing Works policy, which is an important part of our COVID-19 Recovery Package, would fast track the building of 490 affordable homes and deliver 550 new jobs including 75 apprenticeships during the construction phase.
"By adopting Labor's policy, the government can start delivering on its promises to help the growing number of Tasmanians facing homelessness and help build Tasmania out of recession."
