Lidcombe Man Extradited Following Serious Hit-and-Run Incident

A man has been extradited from Victoria following a serious hit-and-run incident in Sydney's west last month.

About 5.30pm on Thursday 21 December 2023), a 66-year-old woman was allegedly struck by a Toyota Utility on Vaughan Street, Lidcombe.

The driver allegedly left the scene without providing assistance, while the woman was treated for serious facial and leg injuries. She was taken to hospital and underwent surgery.

Officers from Auburn Police Area Command attended with officers from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation commencing an investigation into the crash.

Following extensive inquiries, with the assistance of Victoria Police, a 32-year-old man was arrested in Melbourne on Friday (5 January 2024).

Crash investigators travelled to Melbourne and applied for the man's extradition which was granted. The man was escorted to NSW and taken to Mascot Police Station where he was charged with fail to stop and assist after vehicle impact causing grievous bodily harm, fail to stop and assist after impact cause injury, use unregistered motor vehicle on road, use uninsured motor vehicle on road and use vehicle on road or road related area motor vehicle tax not paid.

The man appeared at Downing Centre Local Court today where he was formally refused bail to appear at the same court on Tuesday 30 January 2024.
