Life drawing classes will return to Ararat Gallery TAMA in 2026, continuing a popular program that offers adults and senior art students a supportive space to develop their drawing skills under the guidance of experienced tutor, Bev Isaac.
During the two-hour sessions, participants work from a life model through a series of timed warm up sketches and longer exercises designed to build confidence in observing and capturing the human form.
All abilities are welcome, with easels, drawing boards, butchers' paper, charcoal, and seating provided by the Gallery so that people can simply book in and focus on their practice.
An artist and educator Ms Isaac is a multidisciplinary practitioner based in Western Victoria and will again lead the program, offering practical demonstrations and one-on-one support throughout each class. Her experience as both an exhibiting artist and teacher ensures sessions are structured yet relaxed, making them suitable for those picking up a charcoal stick for the first time, as well as more experienced drawers looking to refine their technique.
Ararat Rural City Council Mayor, Cr Bob Sanders, said the return of the life drawing series reflected strong demand for hands on creative opportunities in the municipality. "We know that people in our community value chances to come together, slow down, and learn something new, and these classes at our own Gallery TAMA tick all of those boxes," Cr Sanders said. "You do not have to see yourself as an artist to take part, you just need to be willing to have a go, and you will find a welcoming group, a skilled tutor, and a great local setting right here in Ararat."
Each session is suitable for ages 18 and over, with exemptions available for VCE art students by arrangement. Places are strictly limited to maintain a comfortable studio environment and ensure every participant receives individual guidance.
