WFI Podcast Highlights the Need for Greater Mental Health Support in Rural and Regional Australia

The extreme events of the past few years, from the COVID-19 pandemic to severe weather and natural disasters, have significantly impacted the mental health of many Australians.

IAG believes that Australia's Mental Health Week 9 - 17 October, with World Mental Health Day on 10 October, is an important time to acknowledge and address some of the contributing factors that may impact upon the mental health of people, while highlighting prevention strategies to help those in need of support.

Concerningly, around one in five Australians will experience a mental health condition at some point in their lives, and with limited access to services in remote and regional areas, this issue can be exacerbated.

As a result, Lifeline has seen a substantial uplift in calls for support, stretching its resources across both metro and regional locations.
