Lighting Upgrade One Step Closer: Bayside

Bayside Council will begin work on preparing a Development Application for the upgrade of the existing lights at three local parks - Scarborough Park, Scarborough Park Central and A S Tanner Reserve.

Mayor Awada said getting the DA process started would allow Council staff to begin looking into funding opportunities, via State and Federal Grants, for the upgrade.

"By being 'shovel ready' we will be in a strong position to be successful in attracting grant funding," he said.

"Following a notice of motion from my colleagues Cr Bill Saravinovski and Cr Ed McDougall, Council agreed to allocate funds in our next Quarterly Budget Review to prepare and lodge a development application for the upgrade," he said.

The proposed Development Application will be for the installation of new light poles and lanterns to achieve the required Australian Standards, as well as new wiring and "smart controlled" technology for remote access.

"The DA process will involve a community consultation component, and residents and key stakeholders will be invited to have their say."

In putting forward the Notice of Motion Cr Saravinovski and Cr McDougall said improvements to the lighting in these three parks would be welcomed by the sporting clubs and other organisations that use the grounds and facilities as well as the Ramsgate RSL Club and the greater community.
