Fremantle Detectives have charged a 29-year-old male in relation to a stealing incident that occurred in Wattleup on Saturday 12 September 2026.
It will be alleged between 3.30am and 3.45am, the man gained entry to an exchange site on Rockingham Road in Wattleup and removed approximately 50 metres of copper cabling. The man allegedly placed the cabling in the rear of his vehicle before departing the area.
Police responded and located the man at a nearby cemetery on Mandurah Road, where they seized the cabling and arrested the man.
The 29-year-old man from Cooloongup has been charged with 'Stealing' and is due to appear before Fremantle Magistrates Court on Monday 12 October 2026.
The WA Police Force is actively targeting copper theft across Western Australia, working in partnership with industry stakeholders to strengthen compliance and implement effective prevention measures.
Licensed second-hand and scrap metal dealers are legally required to record the identity of anyone selling scrap copper or copper alloys.
All reports of copper theft are thoroughly investigated, with a strong focus on identifying and prosecuting offenders.
