Lights on again for dogs this winter

Once again, we're expanding the times where Bayside's dogs and their owners can exercise and socialise safely at night.

The winter lighting program aims to provide Bayside's dogs and their owners with dedicated access to three popular dog off-leash sportsgrounds one evening a week while the grounds are not being used for sport.

The lights will be on for dogs exercising at:

  • RJ Sillitoe Reserve, Hampton on Mondays, 5pm - 8pm (enter via Lawson Street)
  • William Street Reserve, Brighton on Fridays, 5pm - 8pm
  • RG Chisholm Reserve, Sandringham on Fridays, 6:30pm - 8:30pm (following junior footy training)

The winter lighting program will run from 5 June 2023 until 2 September 2023, and is a continued action of the Domestic Animal Management Plan 2022-26. During the winter, we're gathering feedback about community experiences to understand if the program should be continued, amended, or expanded.

We'll be talking to the community using the grounds during these times, and closely monitoring sportsground conditions to evaluate the success of the program.

You can also share your experiences online during the program.

Please be responsible, respectful and safe when exercising your dog.

  • Always maintain effective control
  • Scoop the poop (and bin it)!
  • Don't let your dog dig (holes are dangerous for people and pets)
  • Ask permission before approaching people or dogs
  • Never let your dog run at or jump on others
  • Put your dog back on leash if you need to.
