Liquor store shoplifting charge - South Sydney

A man will face court today charged with a number of shoplifting offences in Sydney.

South Sydney Police Area Command have been conducting a proactive shoplifting operation and identified a 22-year-old man who was allegedly involved in liquor retailer theft during November and December 2019 in Zetland and Alexandria.

It is also alleged that during one theft at a store in Alexandria, the man assaulted a staff member.

On Friday (20 December 2019), the 22-year-old man was observed by police walking at Pitt Street in Waterloo.

The man was arrested and allegedly attempted to run from police before being restrained.

During the arrest, the man allegedly bit a Senior Constable on the hand and another Constable sustained minor cuts while trying to restrain the man.

The 22-year-old was taken to mascot Police Station and charged with five counts of shoplifting, two counts of resist police, hinder police and assault.

He was refused bail to appear in Parramatta Local Court today (Saturday 21 December 2019).
