Celebrating Australia Day today in Lithgow, Mayor Cass Coleman presented the NSW Local Citizen Awards which recognise the individuals and groups who have made a significant difference to the community for the year.
Mayor Coleman congratulated the winners, saying, "We have a really diverse range of nominees, and it is so wonderful to recognise the hard work of each and every one of the people and organisations that make our community so special, congratulations to you all."
The Open Citizen of the Year is awarded to Chris Wade.
Chris is the Club Manager of PCYC Lithgow and a deeply respected figure in our local community. During the recent major water main break, Chris immediately coordinated with Wild Wolgan to distribute emergency water and provide transport for those in need.
The Young Citizen of the Year is awarded to Zoe Walsh.
Zoe is very active in the community as the First Nations Cultural Leader at La Salle Academy, dancing with Barrinang Dance Group and teaching culture and dance.
The Young Volunteer of the Year is awarded to Victoria Grantham.
Victoria is involved in a variety of volunteering roles across the community including PCYC, Lithgow Musical Society and Zig Zag railway.
The Open Volunteer of the Year is awarded to Paul Vanstone.
Paul has been the event director for Lithgow Park Run for over 7 years. In addition, he volunteers for many other roles to make the event a success.
The Service to the Community Award goes to LJ Hooker and 2LT/Move FM.
LJ Hooker and 2LT/Move FM have demonstrated exceptional commitment to the Lithgow community through their ongoing support of the Children's Christmas Appeal. Now in its third year, this initiative has brought joy and hope to countless families across the region, ensuring that all children can experience the magic of Christmas.
The Environmental Contribution Award is presented to Trish Kidd.
Over the past 25 years, Trish has quietly, yet profoundly, contributed to the preservation and enhancement of the Lithgow region's natural landscapes, demonstrating extraordinary leadership and commitment to environmental sustainability. She has held leadership and executive roles within the Lithgow Oberon Landcare Association (LOLA) and the Central Tablelands Regional Landcare Network and played a key part in shaping the region's conservation efforts.
The Outstanding Event of the Year is awarded to Brett Groves for Wagambirra/NAIDOC ball.
Wagambirra was the first NAIDOC ball to be held in the Lithgow region. Wagambirra brought the community together to celebrate culture, connection, and joy. It featured incredible live music, beautiful dancers, delicious food, and a vibrant atmosphere that showcased the strength and spirit of our community.
