There were cupcakes all round today at Brunswick Heads' Stan Thompson Reserve as Byron Shire Mayor, Sarah Ndiaye, and the community celebrated the completion of works on a new play space designed specifically for toddler to primary aged children.
The upgraded playground replaces some very tired and underused equipment in the Reserve, adjacent to the Brunswick Heads playing fields and close to the skate park.
"Council is pleased to welcome everyone along to the new and improved Stan Thompson Reserve play space which includes a treehouse with three slides, two new swings, a spring-based echidna toy and imaginative nature-based play areas," said Mayor Ndiaye.
"There's also new seating and picnic tables, new shade trees planted and a colourful fence and entry area to welcome everyone into the space and give parents a well-protected and safe play area for their little ones," she said.
"It's just a small park but this thoughtful upgrade will make the experience so much more enjoyable for kids and parents.
"I know how valuable these spaces are for families with young children. They not only offer a fun and safe place to play but also create opportunities for parents and carers to connect with others in the community.
"Thank you to everyone who participated in our consultation for the creation of this new play space - your ideas and priorities guided us towards the design of this park specifically for our littlest folk," said Mayor Ndiaye.
This new play space for Brunswick Heads was made possible thanks to funding from the NSW Government's Local Small Commitments Allocation (LSCA) Program and Council's Asset Renewal Budget.
"Local playgrounds like this are incredibly important for young families. They give kids a safe place to explore and build confidence, friendships and memories while helping parents and carers connect with others in the community," said Member for Ballina Tamara Smith MP.
"It's wonderful to see this much-loved reserve refreshed and ready to be enjoyed by the next generation of Brunswick Heads families," said Ms Smith.
More information about the new play space at Stan Thompson Reserve is on Council's website.
Council is also currently upgrading the amenities block and club house at Stan Thompson Oval.
