Local cleaning crews spritz and blitz Latrobe City centres

Locally employed workers are undertaking a huge cleaning blitz around Latrobe City as part of the State's Working for Victoria initiative.

Latrobe City Council Mayor, Cr Dan Clancey said the cleaning crews had already started and would work across all CBDs.

"We welcome the initiative, not only because it affords us a measure of relief knowing our city centres will be cleaned regularly, but also because the workers are local. The blitz will see teams of cleaners disinfect and wipe down external surfaces such as street benches, handrails and door handles, traffic light buttons, poles, bicycle stands and bins," Cr Clancey said.

"They apply a cleansing disinfectant, at a safe concentrate level, via spray bottle, and use a cloth to wipe over the surface. They work in teams in specific areas, to eliminate the possibility of any cross-contamination.

"Additionally, local businesses will be included in the cleaning schedule, which will see their door handles and handrail surfaces cleaned. The initiative is aimed at helping build confidence, as restrictions are slowly eased and more people start to go out and about."
