Local Government Elections 2022

The local government elections give you the opportunity to nominate to become a councillor or elect councillors who you think best represent you.

Changes to the legislation earlier this year mean that voting in local government elections is now compulsory.

STATE ELECTORAL ROLL

If you are currently on the electoral roll, you are automatically on the Local Government roll for the municipal area (council) in which your enrolled address is located.

You are eligible to enrol for Tasmanian local government elections if:

  • You are 16 or 17 years of age or older.
  • You are an Australian citizen.
  • You have lived at your present address for at least the last month.

If you are eligible to be on the state electoral roll but are not correctly enrolled, you can:

  • visit: Enrol to vote - Australian Electoral Commission https://www.aec.gov.au/enrol/
  • get an enrolment form from any post office, or
  • ring 1800 801 701 and have it mailed to you.

To be enrolled correctly the TEC need to have received your completed enrolment form before the close of rolls for an election. (see dates below)

GENERAL MANAGER'S ROLL

To be enrolled under these special provisions you need to ensure that the General Manager for the Council in which you are enrolling has your completed enrolment form before the close of rolls for an election. (see dates below)
