Tweed Shire Council is kicking off Local Government Week 2025 today with a community trivia competition and a week of free tours, talks and events across the region.
The week celebrates the many ways Council is part of the community's everyday life, offering opportunities to connect with services, staff and local spaces and even go in the draw to win a staycation worth almost $1400.
With 53 different services delivered across the Tweed—from flood recovery and clean water to libraries, parks and cultural spaces—the week offers a hands-on way to explore what Council does and why it matters.
The trivia competition allows residents to engage with Council and Local Government Week from the comfort of their own homes. It's packed with surprising facts about the Tweed and the services that keep it ticking. Every person who completes the trivia online will go in the draw to win a $1000 voucher to stay at any Tweed Holiday Parks of your choice and 4 x e-bike hires to explore the award-winning Northern Rivers Rail Trail.
Mayor of Tweed Shire Chris Cherry said the week is a fun and meaningful way to help people learn more about how Council supports the region.
"This is such a great opportunity to see what Council does behind the scenes and have a bit of fun while you're at it," Cr Cherry said.
"The trivia is a quick and fun way to learn something new and the prize is an amazing opportunity to enjoy the Tweed for all it has to offer."
Running from 4 to 10 August, the free program for Local Government Week includes everything from treatment plant tours and community sessions to Landcare days, gallery visits, and a behind-the-scenes look at Council services.
The trivia competition is open until 11:59pm Sunday 31 August 2025. To enter, visit tweed.nsw.gov.au/trivia
