Deniliquin and surrounding communities are celebrating a renewed commitment to preserving local history, with six heritage projects awarded funding through the 2025–27 Local Heritage Grants Program.
The program, jointly funded by the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, Environment and Water and Council, supports property owners, custodians and communities to recognise, value and care for heritage items that shape our shared identity.
Mayor Ashley Hall said the grants reflect the community's deep appreciation for its rich heritage and the importance of conserving places that tell the story of our past.
"Our heritage is more than bricks and mortar - it's the foundation of our identity. These projects help ensure that future generations can continue to connect with the stories, architecture and cultural legacy that make our region unique," the Mayor said.
Council CEO Jack Bond also welcomed the announcement, highlighting the broader impact of heritage conservation on community wellbeing and local pride.
"These grants are an investment in our community's future. By preserving the places that hold historical and cultural significance, we're strengthening our connection to the past and fostering a sense of belonging and pride in our local identity," Mr Bond said.
