Logan neighbours encouraged to connect through park picnics

The community is encouraged to host a park picnic with their neighbours to celebrate Neighbour Day 2019.

Plan a park picnic to celebrate Neighbour Day 2019 in the City of Logan on the weekend of March 30-31.

Neighbour Day is Australia's annual celebration of community that encourages people to connect with those who live nearby.

City Lifestyle and Community Committee Chairperson Councillor Steve Swenson said Logan City Council wanted to encourage people to gather their family and neighbours together to be part of Logan's Biggest Picnic at their local park.

"It would also be great if people could invite someone new from their neighbourhood," Cr Swenson said.

"A casual event like a picnic is a good way of getting to know the people who live around you," he said.

Neighbour Day is celebrated on the last Sunday in March every year, with the aim of fostering strong personal connections that last the whole year.

Getting together with your neighbours can have many benefits including reducing loneliness, creating a sense of belonging, increasing local connections and supporting and reducing crime rates.

The theme for Neighbour Day 2019 is 'Loneliness- what neighbours can do to create connections'.

Organising a neighbourhood picnic does not have to be hard work, especially if everyone brings their own food, drinks and picnic blankets.

Register your picnic at the Neighbours of Logan website and the first 20 registered picnics will receive a $50 voucher towards the event.
