Logan police issue reminder about relaxation of COVID-19 restrictions

With the further easing of Chief Health Officer restrictions from midnight tonight (11:59PM, Friday 15 May), Logan District Police will be working hard to assist the community in ensuring the new directives are met.

Police officers in the area will ensure local businesses, restaurants and licensed premises adhere to the limits on patron numbers and ensure social distancing requirements are met throughout the weekend.

Chief Superintendent Brian Swan said: "We are aware of some confusion in the community about the timing of the latest relaxation measures. The new measures commence from 11.59pm on Friday night, 15 May 2020."

"In reality that means Saturday is the day we will see the changes many of us are looking forward to," Chief Superintendent Swan said.

In addition to having a visible presence in places of business and public space, Chief Superintendent Swan said police would also be highly active on roadways between Logan City and the Scenic Rim.

"Over the past couple of weeks we've seen a number of serious traffic incidents in the Logan District, one of which tragically led to the death of a local man.

"While restrictions on travel are easing, we ask motorists to be vigilant in their travels and our police will be making their presence known on roads, particularly in heavily used tourist areas over the weekend," Chief Superintendent Swan said.

Police advise the previously suspended use of manned speed detection vehicles will be once active across Logan and the Scenic Rim.
