Corangamite residents are being encouraged to look and shop local to support their communities and businesses this Christmas.
Mayor Kate Makin said every dollar spent locally makes a difference.
"Supporting local businesses keeps money in the community, strengthens jobs and helps our towns thrive," Cr Makin said.
Council has developed a 'Shop Local for Christmas in Corangamite' campaign that includes social media and print advertising.
The campaign is an opportunity to support local businesses when looking for gifts this festive season.
"Our businesses are the heart of our community, so it is important to support them and look at what is available locally" she said.
"Many businesses have got creative and are providing new products and services, finding unique ways to meet the needs of our community and customers".
Cr Makin said taking the time to get to know what is on offer can provide a fresh perspective, thinking of Christmas gifts with a broader prospective on giving.
"We have an opportunity to explore what products and experiences are available in our own backyard".
"Whether it's a short stay in a part of the shire you haven't visited, a voucher from your favourite shop, pub or café, an artisanal produce hamper, or a beauty experience, that perfect gift can be purchased from one of the many businesses in Corangamite".
