Look out, the libertarians have arrived
Supporters of the nanny state, champagne socialists, rent seekers, moral guardians and all other varieties of authoritarians in the Victorian Parliament are about to be put on notice – the libertarians have arrived.
Liberal Democrat MLC for South Eastern Metropolitan, David Limbrick will deliver his first speech at 3.30 on Tuesday afternoon. Mr Limbrick and Liberal Democrat MLC for Northern Victoria, Tim Quilty are the first people elected to the Victorian Parliament on a purely libertarian or classical liberal platform.
Their pledge is to never vote for an increase in taxes or a reduction in liberty.
Ahead of the speech, Mr Limbrick said the Liberal Democrats will bring a whole new perspective to the Victorian Parliament.
"We believe in the rights of the individual. Once you understand that politics should not be about the left or right, but about individual freedom, it will give you a whole new perspective," Mr Limbrick said.
"We will work every day to make Victorians freer from government interference."
Liberal Democrats members and supporters will attend the speech, including Senator David Leyonhjelm.
Liberal Democrat MLC for Northern Victoria, Tim Quilty's first speech is scheduled for 19 February.
