Goulburn Mulwaree Council will look to the future sustainability of the region, following the approval of the composition and brief for the Sustainability Working Party on Tuesday night.
The aim of the working party is to discuss climate change and biodiversity loss locally to develop strategies and options to address these issues at a local level. The aim of the working party is not to debate the science of climate change or biodiversity loss but rather to develop achievable, affordable and practical options that can be implemented in our community to start to address these issues.
"This working party is an exciting initiative that will allow us to develop whole of community strategies that both individuals and the Council can contribute to, in order to make Goulburn Mulwaree an even better place to live" stated Mayor Bob Kirk.
"It is important that the working party focuses on real, affordable initiatives, which our community will buy into and be proud of."
Expressions of Interest for the five community representatives will be advertised for two weeks, with direct applications to also be sought from the Chamber of Commerce and the four local high schools for a representative.
The working party will consist of 11 participants to include:
- Councillor Sam Rowland
- One senior student from each of the four local high schools
- One direct appointment from the Goulburn Chamber of Commerce
- Up to five community representatives selected by Council from the Expression of Interest process.
The working party will develop strategies and will aim to have their final report to Council in March 2022.
Expressions of interest will open from Thursday 3rd June, and close on Thursday 17th June at 5pm. Interested community members are asked to respond to the questions; 'What is your interest in joining this Working Party?'
