The City of Casey is encouraging residents to get involved in caring for our parks, waterways and open spaces by joining or starting a Friends Group in their neighbourhood.
Environmental Volunteers come together to care for natural spaces through hands‑on activities like weeding, litter collection and habitat restoration. This work plays an important role in keeping our environment healthy and enjoyable for everyone.
Last night, Council held an Environmental Volunteers information session and welcomed many new volunteers, highlighting our community's strong desire to make a difference to their environment.
Mayor Cr Stefan Koomen said, "It's encouraging to see such strong interest from prospective volunteers. It speaks to how much our community values the local environment and the role they play in caring for it."
Deputy Mayor Cr Crowther said, "It was wonderful to see so many locals stepping forward, ready to care for the places they love. Environmental volunteering is a simple. You don't need experience, just an interest in getting involved and being part of something positive."
Council currently supports six active Friends Groups across the city, with volunteers meeting regularly to care for a variety of natural spaces, while enjoying the outdoors and connecting with their community.
