Lucky escape on Citylink

A driver and his passenger have had a lucky escape after a plank of wood smashed through their windscreen while they were driving on Citylink last month.

The 71-year-old driver from Malvern and his passenger, a 70-year-old Malvern woman, were travelling at 80km/h in their Porsche Macan SUV between Brunswick and Moreland Roads on 20 September about 10am when the piece of wood struck their vehicle.

It caused damaged to the bonnet of the SUV and part of the plank went through the windscreen.

The driver suffered a black eye as a result of the collision while his passenger was not injured.

Neither the driver nor passenger saw where the wood came from.

Investigators wish to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have dashcam footage.
