Lucy Street Park In Cambooya Gets Considerable Upgrade

Toowoomba Region Sports Precinct

Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) has just completed a significant upgrade to the Lucy Street Park in Cambooya, delivering a new and improved public area for Cambooya residents to enjoy.

TRC's Parks and Recreation Services portfolio spokesperson Cr Tim McMahon said he was excited for the Cambooya community to have access to a range of new recreational activities.

"The Lucy Street Park is often used by residents as a place to relax with friends and family, so it's wonderful that Council upgraded the park to include a replaced half basketball court, a brand-new fitness station, a new BBQ facility and an improved seating area."

"Providing various opportunities for physical activity is another way Council is promoting healthy and active living throughout our Region," Cr McMahon said.

The project's construction which included over 15 upgrades, started in May this year and finished last month in June, 2025.

The total project investment was over $634,000 which also transformed the park into a safer, more accessible space.

"Part of the project's works focused on enhancing the lighting of key areas of activity, adding additional safety features such as enhanced street crossings, new pathways, bollards and bike racks. Each of these measures have improved public safety considerably," Cr McMahon said.

TRC engaged two local companies, Dawsons Concreting and Sutton Concreting, to deliver the concreting works for this project.

Engaging these local concrete suppliers is one of many examples of TRC's investment back into local business, with an almost $200 million local spend for the 2024/25 financial year.

Cr McMahon said he was glad Council actively supports local business growth and contributes positively to the local economy.

"I want to thank everyone who was involved in delivering this project for their fantastic work. I also want to thank the Cambooya community for their patience during construction," Cr McMahon said.
