Attorney General John Quigley is pleased to announce the appointment of Magistrate Christian Miocevich to the bench of the District Court.
Magistrate Miocevich has extensive experience in criminal law and jury trial work, including 15 years with the Aboriginal Legal Service (ALS) of Western Australia.
After graduating from law at the University of Tasmania in 1987, he was admitted to practice in 1989 in the Northern Territory and in 1991 in WA, working as a solicitor in both jurisdictions.
In 1994 Magistrate Miocevich joined the ALS, where he worked as a solicitor and then counsel, gaining considerable trial experience in the District and Supreme Courts and advising lawyers around the State while performing trial and jury work.
In 2009 he established a sole practice and, in 2012, a partnership called C&G Miocevich.
Magistrate Miocevich provided regular pro bono legal advice to Legal Aid WA, the ALS and Street Law Lawyers, a free outreach legal service for the homeless.
He was appointed a Magistrate of the Magistrate's Court of Western Australia in September 2018. He also very successfully presided over the Barndimalgu Court in Geraldton.
Magistrate Miocevich will take up his District Court appointment on August 23, 2021.

"Over the course of his career he has demonstrated an extensive commitment to ensuring the disadvantaged have access to legal advice and services.
"As a Magistrate, he has managed a large caseload of criminal and civil matters and is highly regarded in the legal profession.
