Maintenance for timber bridges

Major maintenance work on an Old Armidale Road bridge is scheduled to begin on Monday.

Decking and kerbs will be replaced on the Kaurala Bridge, west of Guyra, with work expected to be completed on Thursday 14 November.

It is the first of two timber bridges receiving a significant overhaul work next week.

Once maintenance on Kaurala Bridge is completed, work will start to replace decking and kerbs on Burns Gully Bridge, on Platform Road in Kelly's Plains.

The Burns Gully Bridge project could begin on the Thursday or Friday, and is scheduled to be finished on Sunday 17 November.

Traffic delays of up to 15 minute will be necessary during the work on both bridges.

However, a detour will be in place for the Burns Gully Bridge work, with signage to direct road users via Burns Road.

A side track will be available during the Karuala Bridge works but will only be suitable for four-wheel-drive vehicles with high clearance.

Both projects are part of Council's Bridge Safety Program to extend the lives of a number of timber bridges and prevent the need to apply load limit restrictions for vehicles using these structures. The Safety Program is funded through the Federal Government's Roads to Recovery Program.
