Major drug arrest (ICE) Surfers Paradise

Detectives from the Gold Coast Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) have charged a man with serious drug offences following the alleged discovery of the drug ICE valued, in excess of $16,000, in a Surfers Paradise apartment.

Around 8.40am on June 2, a search warrant was executed at the Wahroonga Place address where detectives located a large quantity of methamphetamine (ICE), cocaine, scales, $2300 in cash, a restricted drug and other drug paraphernalia.

A 35-year-old man from Arundel has been charged with five counts of possessing a dangerous drug in excess of schedule, two counts of possessing a dangerous drug and one count each of possess property suspected of having been acquired for the purpose of committing a drug offence and possess utensils.

He is to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on June 11.

Detective Inspector Brendan Smith from Gold Coast CIB said "The negative impact of ICE within the community cannot be overstated. The weekend's effort sees over 400 "hits" taken off the streets. Those people involved in the illegal drug trade need to understand police will take every opportunity to bring them before the court regardless of the location or time of day."

Investigations are continuing.
