Major drug arrest – Townsville

Police have allegedly seized a large quantity of drugs including cannabis, methylamphetamine (Ice), cocaine and MDMA pills with an estimated street value of over a million dollars as well as a large amount of cash following the search of a house in Townsville yesterday.

The discovery follows a protracted investigation by members of the Townsville Drug Squad which resulted in the executed of a search warrants on a number of residences at Currajong.

it is alleged police located 12.5 kilograms of cannabis, 687 grams of methylamphetamine (Ice), 747 LSD tablets, 28 grams of cocaine, 2180 MDMA pills and $459, 240 in cash.

Det Insp Denzil Clark from the Drug and Serious Crime Group said the seizure will cause significant disruption to the supply of drugs in the area as well as the State.

"This was a major investigation targeting a significant criminal enterprise.

"Drugs have a devastating impact on our communities which is why we will continue to target those people who plie this illegal and destructive trade," said Detective Inspector Clark

A 48-year-old man was arrested at the scene and has been charged with two counts of trafficking a dangerous drug, seven counts of possess a dangerous drug and one count each of possess thing used in a crime, possess thing used, possession of proceeds and possession of a restricted drug,

He is due to face the Townsville Magistrates Court today.

As part of the operation there were also five further search warrants executed which allegedly located one kilogram of cannabis and a quantity of methylamphetamine which resulted in seven people being charged with 21 drug related offences.
