Major Infrastructure Works At Lake Wyangan Commence

Griffith City Council has commenced a major phase of the Lake Wyangan Residential Housing Enabling Infrastructure Development.

Funding for this project was secured earlier this year through the Australian Government's Housing Support Program, along with internal contributions from the Lake Wyangan Development Contribution Plan.

The works will deliver essential civil infrastructure to support the development of around 500 additional homes in the Lake Wyangan area.

The full scope of works includes:

• Several kilometres of stormwater drainage and associated earthworks

• Installation of a new stormwater outfall pump

• Realignment of Abattoir and Mallinson Roads

• Construction of two new T-intersections at Boorga Road and Mallinson Road

These works include constructing a detention basin on Smeeth Road and upgrading a major stormwater culvert, which will require closing the Boorga and Smeeth Road intersection. Details about the road closure will be advertised closer to the start of works, with detours in place via Mallinson and Lakes Roads.

Griffith Mayor, Councillor Doug Curran, said the commencement of works marks an important milestone for the project and will deliver new housing opportunities for the Griffith Local Government Area.

"This is a significant step forward for Lake Wyangan and the broader growth of Griffith," Councillor Curran said.

"These works will help unlock land for development and bring our long-term plans for the area closer to reality."

Council will continue to work closely with stakeholders to ensure the project is delivered on time and disruption to the community is minimised. Project updates will be available on Griffith City Council's 'Connect Griffith' engagement hub: https://connect.griffith.nsw.gov.au

The project is expected to be completed by mid-2026.
