We will kick off a major program of renewal works aimed at improving the condition of ageing roads in central Torquay.
The program, funded through Council's 2026-27 asset renewal budget, will begin with resurfacing of Fischer Street between Beach Road and Zeally Bay Road, alongside Taylor Park.
Work will start on Monday 19 October, with traffic detours in place until works are completed in December 2026.
Sections of Pearl Street, Bristol Road, Cliff Street, Walker Street and Boston Road will also be resurfaced this financial year, with timings to be communicated in the lead-up to each project.
Collectively, the works represent a $755,000 investment in improving the condition of local Torquay streets so that all road users can travel safely.
Councillor Phoebe Crockett thanked the community for its patience while the works are carried out.
"We know our community wants to see local roads well maintained, and many of the streets in the heart of Torquay are now ageing and due for renewal," said Cr Crockett.
"Resurfacing these roads will bring them back to very good condition, improving driving and riding conditions while reducing maintenance costs in the short-term.
"This is a fundamental role of local councils and something we are prioritising through our annual asset renewal program.
"We understand there will be some inconvenience for people travelling through town while the works are happening, but it's important we get it done."
Keeping local roads safe for all users is a priority in the Council Plan 2025-29 under the 'Assets and Infrastructure' strategic direction.
