The Woods Reserve Campground on Corin Dam Road will close in November 2025 for upgrade works to commence to improve the experience for visitors.
The ACT Government invested $3.68m in the ACT Budget 2024-25 towards safety upgrades for the Woods Reserve/Gibraltar Falls precinct, including new signage, improved walking trails, safety improvements to the viewing area at Gibraltar Falls, and upgrades to visitor amenities.
Executive Branch Manager for the ACT Parks and Conservation Service Michaela Watts said these upgrades reflect the government's commitment to ensuring all visitors enjoy high-quality experiences in ACT parks and reserves.
"We know Canberrans and visitors to the ACT love Woods Reserve and the campground," Ms Watts said.
"These upgrades will make a range of improvements for all visitors including more accessible camping and day-use experiences, new walking tracks and lookouts, upgraded facilities and enhanced signage throughout the area
"Visitors will notice a new camping area with new walk-in and drive-in campsites, with upgraded amenities including toilets and hot showers.
"There will be new BBQs, picnic shelters and recreational trails in the area, providing visitors with plenty of options for a great day out to enjoy the reserve, whether you're just looking for a change of scenery or want to get some exercise.
"Parking will also be upgraded for day users as well as campers, which is going to be especially important as the Woods Reserve carpark will become the new access point for the Gibraltar Falls viewing platform.
"While Woods Reserve Campground is closed, I encourage you to check out some of our other great campgrounds and walking trails or head out to one of your local reserves.
"Honeysuckle Campground offers access to Booroomba Rocks and Honeysuckle Creek and is another favourite campsite in the ACT. With 39 reserves that make up Canberra Nature Park, Canberrans are never far from a great opportunity for adventure," said Ms Watts.
Woods Reserve, the Gibraltar Falls viewing platform and surrounds will remain closed while these works are completed. Upgrade works for Woods Reserve are expected to be completed by mid-2026.
