Major Works On Surf Coast Highway Upgrade Complete

VIC Premier

The Albanese and Allan Labor governments are making it safer and easier for people to travel through Grovedale, with major upgrade works now complete at a key intersection along the Surf Coast Highway.

The intersection of the Surf Coast Highway, Reserve Road and Felix Street has been upgraded with new traffic signals, improving safety for vehicles turning right out of side roads and for pedestrians crossing the road.

The new signals are linked to the nearby Grovedale CFA station to ensure safe and efficient emergency vehicle access from Reserve Road, while also improving traffic flow and increasing capacity during peak periods.

The Australian Government and Victorian governments have each committed $2.48 million to deliver the project.

A high volume of traffic turns right from Reserve Road towards Geelong across four lanes of traffic - leading to driver frustration, congestion and risky behaviour.

The upgrade will reduce queuing in the middle of the dual highway and prevent vehicles from blocking through-traffic on the Surf Coast Highway.

Around 29,000 vehicles travel along this section of the Surf Coast Highway each day, and the completed project will help ensure smoother and safer journeys along this key corridor connecting Geelong and the Surf Coast.

As stated by Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Catherine King:

"The Surf Coast is a beautiful part of the world and we want to ensure that the road networks are safe and efficient for both locals and visitors."

As stated by Victorian Minister for Roads and Road Safety Melissa Horne:

"This project will make it easier for local motorists to get home safely and access key services - keeping the Grovedale community connected."

As stated by Federal Member for Corangamite Libby Coker:

"Locals have been calling for improvements at this intersection for years - and these upgrades will make a real difference for families, businesses and emergency services travelling through Grovedale every day."

As stated by State Member for Western Victoria Gayle Tierney:

"This upgrade is about keeping people safe and making it easier to get around - whether you're heading to work, school or the coast."
